Ajay Gurung belongs to the lowlands Gurung village of Thumi where the daylong bus and jeep journey ends. From here, you technically start your walk. His brother runs a 7-room lodge “Fulbari” literally meaning flower garden next to the Soti River where you can plunge into one of the pool to cool yourself after dusty road drive. Everyday climbing of stairs to Manbu village was his only choice to get to the school education. He’d be more than happy to welcome to his brother’s lodge or stop over for lunch, tea or just say Namaste. In off-season, he studies management in Kathmandu. Being the witness of 10 years maoist insurgency, he likes to talk about local Nepali politics. One of his recent experience from the trip was he was able to clear the weather by singing and dancing before reaching Tsum.
